May bank holidays 2010 travel deals May bank holidays 2010 travel deals
In the UK, May is blessed with two bank holiday weekends, and it seems a shame to spend those rare three day bank holiday weekends at home when there are so many fantastic places to escape to for a short break. The May Day bank holiday (Early May bank holiday) on the first Monday and the Spring bank holiday on the last represent the two bank holidays in May, with the actual bank holiday Mondays falling on the 3rd and 31st May in 2010.

The actual origins of the May Bank Holidays, especially May Day, are somewhat unclear, originating in pre-Christian Europe, yet adopted to mean many things to many people. The May Bank holiday celebrations are now usually seen as the start of summer, providing a chance to rid you of the winter blues over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Eurostar comes up with May bank holidays 2010 travel deals. And with the weather likely to hold up far better than at home, Paris, Brussels and Lille are ideal destinations for your early summer sojourn. Words that come to mind when I think of Paris in May are flourishing and buzzing: the entire city is a hyperactive hive of visitors, lush blooms, and excitement. Tourism is at its hilt and even blasé natives start to really see the city again, perhaps inspired by the infectious enthusiasm of visitors. Similarly Brussels and Lille have its own charm and attraction during this month.

EVENTS IN MAY
  •   15th Brussels Jazz Marathon 28 - 29 - 30 MAY 2010 -
Since more than a decade the Brussels Jazz Marathon draws public from all over Europe and even from Japan. A huge jazz party which makes the capital of Europe swing for one weekend, with more than 450 musicians performing on the main squares in Brussels (Grand Place, place du Sablon, place Ste-Catherine & place Fernand Cocq) as well as in 50 venues/clubs/hotels.

  •  Through May: Foire du Trone (Annual Fair) -
Parents and kids can look forward to the annual Paris fair (Foire du Trône), which runs through the end of the month and delivers all the traditional fun of a county fair, with Ferris wheels, roller coasters, and cotton candy included.

  •  French open -
Tennis fans should not miss one of France's most exciting and important tournaments. Tennis greats like Steffi Graf made their debuts at Roland Garros, and the French Open continues to host some of the world's unforgettable matches. Procuring tickets, however, can be quite a feat, so try to snag much-coveted spots at the matches several months ahead.

Easter Day Travel Deals Easter Day Travel Deals
Easter is celebrated with a lot of pomp and show in Europe. A festival for rejuvenation and live and living, Easter commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Easter eggs and bunnies are the major attraction of the festival. Easter is a two day holiday in France and Belgium, covering Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. Combine this with the Good Friday holiday and you can make the most of a long weekend in Paris or Brussels.
To the tourist’s advantage, most museums, monuments, restaurants, bars and other places of interest in Paris remain open during the Easter weekend.

Mother’s Day in Paris Mother’s Day in Paris
If you think one Mother's Day a year simply isn't enough, you can treat your mum to second special day by celebrating France's Fête des Mere’s on June 7. A French tradition that was inaugurated by Napoleon and made official in 1950, this day honoring mothers dates back to Ancient Greece and is found in several countries. On this day, children indulge their mothers with gifts, cards and flowers or by doing something special for her, and like most things in France the day usually culminates in a large family dinner in mum’s honor. The whole point is to ensure that your mother has the most relaxing and memorable day possible.
Why not offer your mum a chance to enjoy two Mother's Days in a year. It doesn’t need to be another full-blown affair, just a nice dinner and a tour of Paris, one of the finest cities in the world.
Surprise your mum by taking her on a trip to Paris for an unforgettable day.

The Paris Marathon 2010 travel deals The Paris Marathon 2010 travel deals
Paris Marathon or the French say, the Marathon de Paris, was established in 1977 with the 1970's craze for big city Marathons, and is undoubtedly one of the biggest and most popular marathons in Europe after London! And where better than the most romantic city in the World for a running holiday!!

The Paris Marathon starts on one of the World's most famous streets, the Champs Elysees, and attracting over 35,000 runners each year, this is a truly memorable journey through to the finish in the spectacular Avenue Foch. Medals and certificates are issued for all runners who finish within the time limit of 5hrs 40mins.

Did you know? The very first marathon in Paris was on Sunday the 19th of July 1896, there was a big crowd at Porte Maillot for the first French marathon, which brought together 191 participants. After a 2h31'30'‘ race, and cheered on by 2.000 spectators, the British man Len Hurst crossed the finishing line traced out on the Conflans bridge. After a brief moment in the arms of his coach Boon, he regained all his strength in order to receive the 200 francs from the Petit Journal.

In the 2009 Paris Marathon, there were nearly 40,000 entrants, with over 30,000 finishing the marathon. Over 5,000 marathon runners entered from the UK, nearly half of the total 12,265 international entries. Interestingly, during the Paris Marathon itself, there were 220 000 spectators, 2 700 volunteers, 30 000 sponges, 84 music groups on the route and the marathon runners consumed 18 000 kg of bananas, 17 050 kg of oranges, 440 000 bottles of water, 2 000 kg of dried fruit and 2 000 kg of sugar cubes!!
Now, doesn't that make you want to run the Paris Marathon??

This year it will held on April 11th, 2010 - 8:45 a.m (handisports: 8:35 a.m) on the Champs Elysées. Total distance covered will be 42,195 km in the City of Paris…
From the Champs Élysées Avenue to Foch Avenue running through Bastille, Nation, Vincennes, les Tuileries…

In April the streets of Paris are overrun, quite literally. Watch the Paris marathon as part of your trip.

Under 26? Youth rate travel deals Under 26? Youth rate travel deals
Youth is synonymous with fun. So if you’re young, a great way to have some fun over the weekend, is to hang out in Paris by going there on Eurostar’s youth rate travel deals.
Paris is a place where you couldn’t get bored if you tried. There are just too many things to do. Start with the must-see attractions, move to the big sights and fine museums, check out some tours, and dig into some outdoor activities. Catch your breath for a while at a sidewalk café and get back again into the scheme of things.
Why come to Paris in the first place? Bright lights, big names, engraved plaques—these are the on-the-beaten-path hot spots no visitor to Paris should miss. Plus, they make for photo opportunities that are bound to make your friends back home turn green with envy. If you're going to Paris for the first time, you may have heard that the proverbial "Paris in the springtime" is the best time to visit. But depending on your budget, tolerance for large crowds, and centres of interest, a different time of the year might just suit you a little better. Similarly, if you've been to Paris before, you may wonder whether an autumn or winter visit will be worthwhile, considering the cold. The reality, though, is that the winter holiday season in Paris offers plenty of light and celebration, and during autumn events like the Montmartre Wine Harvest lends a unique flavour to the city.
From only £59 return. Book a weekend break to see the sights.
